Like most things, the Reindeer Fun Run started as an idea—sparked, for buyCalls’ David Petsolt and his wife Kate, by a trip to Charleston in 2006.
Waking up on a chilly December morning, they stepped outside into an unexpected holiday frenzy, as joggers dressed as Christmas presents, children dressed like Santa Claus, and dogs dressed as elves flew by on foot. Talking to spectators along the route, the Petsolts discovered they were at the city’s annual Reindeer Run. At once, they knew they needed to bring this holiday celebration to their community too.
The Reindeer Fun Run has grown significantly since its beginnings in 2007, now welcoming thousands of walkers, joggers, runners, and cheerers annually. This past Saturday, the 8th annual Reindeer Fun Run was no exception: more than 2,400 paid participants circled through downtown Aberdeen dressed as snowmen, reindeer, Christmas trees, and other holiday creations. Despite a little bit of rain, costume contests, photos with Santa, pony rides, delicious food, and live music was enjoyed by all. We even celebrated an engagement at the finish line!
